City and School District Reaffirm Curfew Guidelines

City of Canton, Chief of Police, Bruce Lawver and Canton City Schools Superintendent, Chris Smith are partnering to remind Canton’s youth about the city’s curfew rules. With the school year coming to a close, the safety, health and wellness of Canton’s youth remains top priority during the summer months.

The city curfew states that no minor shall loiter, idle, wander, stroll or play, or be in or on any vehicle, in or upon any public place between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., Sunday night through Thursday night, and between the hours of 12:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m., Friday night through Saturday night.

“Youth safety is always a top priority for our officers,” stated Chief Lawver. “We want the youth of our community to know that curfew enforcement is not meant to be a form of punishment. It is in place to protect them and make sure that they are not in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

The Canton Police Department Special Investigation Unit has already conducted curfew sweeps during the spring and will continue to do so throughout the summer months.

“The Canton City School District fully supports the efforts of the Canton Police Department. We continue to keep open lines of communication throughout the summer with Canton Police to support efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of all our students,” said Superintendent, Chris Smith.
