Released/Published: Jun 22, 2012
Thursday, June 21, 2012 marked a historical moment for the Canton Fire Department and the City of Canton as Captain Kwameshallahu Bennett was sworn in to pursue his new duties as Battalion Chief. Chief Bennett is attributed as the first person from a minority group to achieve an Chief Officer rank in the Canton Fire Department after obtaining the highest score on the promotional Battalion Chief Civil Service Examination.
Chief Bennett initially began his career with the Canton Fire Department in 1993, and has diligently served the city as an EMT Paramedic and Fire Officer for the past 19 years. In September of 2002, his dedication to serving the Canton community led to his promotion to Fire Captain. His success in guidance as Captain helped to prepare him for his next role as Battalion Chief.
We are confident that his newly esteemed position will continue to demonstrate the leadership, service and commitment that Chief Bennett has shown in the Canton community. Please join us in congratulating Chief Bennett on his historic achievement as he embarks upon a new stage of his career.
