CANTON, Ohio —

City fire investigators have made a second arrest in the case involving a recent house explosion on August 14, 2008. Investigators Joe Carafelli and Jack Phifer were able to provide the Virginia State Police and the Virginia Warrant Task Force with information that enabled them to apprehend suspect 20-year old Kyle Yacher in Salem, Virginia.

Mr. Yacher has been arrested and will be extradited to Canton where he will be booked into the Stark County jail on charges of Felony 1 aggravated arson and Felony 4 Theft charges. He was also wanted on other charges in North Canton.

Mr. Yacher’s last known address was 1415 Wilber Ave N.E. in North Canton. The charges stem from the theft of stolen copper pipe that caused a natural gas leak leading to the explosion. The residence at 816 Smith Ave. N.W. in Canton was completely destroyed and also caused significant damage to several other nearby houses. Two firefighters were injured fighting the fire. Total damage estimates were $117,000.
