Welcome - Canton Law Department
The Canton Law Department is responsible for a wide variety of services provided to the public, City departments, City employees, area law enforcement agencies, and the Courts. The law department takes an active role regionally by participating in the Stark Council of Governments (SCOG) and by working closely with the Stark County Prosecutor's Office.
The Law Department is comprised of two divisions: the Civil Division and the Criminal Division. The Law Department is headed by the City Law Director, who is responsible for the administration of the department and is elected at-large every four years.
The Law Director and his staff provide representation for the Mayor, Auditor, Treasurer, City Council, Administration Officials and Department Heads, City Commissions and Boards. The Law Department provides legal representation in such diverse areas as zoning, civil service, health, income tax, and building and code enforcement. Legal representation is also provided to the Fair Housing Commission, Park Commission, Planning Commission and other commissions and oversight groups.
