Law Department - Civil Division

The areas of responsibility of the Civil Division include the drafting and interpretation of ordinances which eventually become the laws of the City of Canton; preparation of all contracts; representation of the City in all labor relations matters with the City's five employee unions; processing of all legal and moral claims filed against and/or on behalf of the City; mediation and/or legal enforcement of Building and Code Enforcement matters; specialized representation to the Police and Fire Departments; and representation to Community Development on City loans, grants and other programs.

The Civil Division litigates cases in every level of state and federal courts, including the United States Supreme Court, representing the interests of the City of Canton and its citizens.
