Boards and Commissions
Fair Employment Practices Board
Purpose/Duties
The Fair Employment Practices Board receives and investigates charges of employment discrimination. If the Commission determines a respondent has engaged in, or is engaging in any unlawful discriminatory employment practice, the Commission shall issue an order requiring the respondent to cease and desist from such unlawful practice.
The Commission may take measures requiring the hiring, reinstatement or upgrading and promotion of employees, with or without back pay, and admission or restoration of union membership. It may institue a requirement for reporting compliance with the orders of the Board.
Not less than once per year, the Commission submits to the Mayor and Council reports and recommendations describing the investigations, proceedings, and hearings it has conducted. The Commission conducts educational and other public relations programs to promote the equal rights and opportunities of all persons in matters related to employment, regardless of their race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, national origin, or ancestry and to eliminate the prejudice and ignorance which result in economic and employment discrimination.
When authorized by the Council or when requested by the Mayor, the Board investigates and reviews all municipal contracts and the employment practices of all contractors or subcontractors in the employ of the City, and to assure and certify compliance with applicable federal, state and local equal employment standards.

Meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month at 12:00 on the 3rd floor of City Hall.
