Citizens Police Academy offers a glimpse inside Canton PD

The Canton Police Department will be hosting the Citizens Police Academy beginning October 21RD thru December 16TH, 2014. The Citizen's Police Academy is a great opportunity for citizens to receive an inside perspective of the operations of the Canton Police Department.

 The nine-week academy includes K-9 training demonstrations, information on Police Department units including Internal Affairs, SWAT, Vice/Gang Task Force, an introduction to firearm safety, policies on use of force and self-defense, information on the court system, and much more. Participants will also have the unique opportunity to ride-along with a police officer on duty.

 The Citizens Police Academy will be held at the Canton Police Department Training Academy, located at 1430 Cherry Avenue S.E. Training sessions begin on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 and will take place on 9 consecutive Tuesdays, and culminate on Tuesday, December 16th 2014. All sessions will begin promptly at 6:00 pm. and will end at 8pm and 9pm. Light refreshments will be served. Enrollees are requested to attend all 9 sessions and a culmination.

Participants must be 21 years of age or older. A background check will be conducted as part of the application process. Twenty individuals will be selected for the Fall 2014 Citizens Academy.  Persons who have previously applied are requested to re-apply.
