Walking Track Reconstruction to Begin Labor Day Week

The Canton Park Commission is pleased to announce that reconstruction on the Herbert L. Fisher Walking Track in Stadium Park will commence next week, weather permitting.

"We are thrilled that our most active park facility will receive a complete resurfacing," stated Park Director, Derek Gordon. "Through the generosity of our taxpayers, the Timken Foundation, Canton Joint Recreation District, and the City of Canton we believe the track will continue to be a beloved amenity for a long time to come."

Asphalt Fabrics Inc. will begin to place signage and environmental controls on site next week with track removal to follow shortly thereafter. The full reconstruction be completed by mid-October depending on proper weather conditions. The Park Commission asks for patience from park patrons during this process as the reconstruction will result in partial and full track closures at various points throughout the project. However, the track will remain open throughout the project as often as possible.

The new brown surface, will allow for easier repairs and improved drainage, while maintaining a forgiving rubberized surface that has long been a signature element of the track since it was built in the mid 1980's. The entire project will inject $320,000 of investment into Stadium Park and is the largest project funded by the City's first park levy which was passed last November.
