Citizens Police Academy offers a glimpse inside Canton PD

The Canton Police Department will be hosting the Citizens Police Academy beginning October 19


th thru December 9th, 2011. The Citizen’s Police Academy is a great opportunity for citizens to receive an inside perspective of the operations of the Canton Police Department.


The nine-week academy includes K-9 training demonstrations, information on Police Department units including Internal Affairs, SWAT, Vice/Gang Task Force, an introduction to firearm safety, policies on use of force and self-defense, information on the court system, and much more. Participants will also have the unique opportunity to ride-along with a police officer on duty.


The Citizens Police Academy will be held at the Canton Police Department Training Academy, located at 1430 Cherry Avenue S.E. at the former fire station. Training sessions begin on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 and will take place on 8 consecutive Wednesdays (except for Thanksgiving week), and culminate on Thursday, December 15


th, 2011. All sessions will begin promptly at 6:00 pm. and will end at 8:30 pm. Light refreshments will be served. Enrollees are requested to attend all 8 sessions and a culmination.


Participants must be 21 years of age or older. A background check will be conducted as part of the application process. Twenty individuals will be selected for the Fall 2011 Citizens Academy. Persons who have previously applied are requested to re-apply.
