12th Street to Be Milled This Week to Alleviate Pothole Damage

CANTON, Ohio —

The City of Canton’s Street Department is planning to mill parts of 12th Street beginning this week. The milling process will grind the existing pavement on the street down to the brick and will alleviate some of the issues regarding potholes and street cracks on 12th Street. The project will also prepare 12th Street for its scheduled revitalization in 2015.

“The milling process is typically done before major street repairs and repaving,” said Michael Rorar, Superintendent of Public Works. “Because the city already has plans to repave 12th Street next year, milling the problem areas will help get the process started. It is also more cost effective to prepare the street for its repaving rather than filling the potholes, milling the street, and then repaving it.”

The parameters of the project will be: 12th Street NE from Gibbs Avenue NE to Walnut Avenue NE; Market Avenue North to Cleveland Avenue NW; and a small portion of the street between Oxford Avenue NW and Arnold Avenue NW. The project is expected to start on Wednesday, March 5 and to be completed by Friday. Motorists should expect delays or use an alternate route while the project is being completed.
