CANTON, Ohio —

Mayor William Healy announced Wednesday that the first two education meetings regarding the City’s proposed traffic enforcement camera system have been canceled due to inclement weather.

Follow-up dates for the meetings will be announced as soon as locations are confirmed.  The first canceled meeting was scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. at the Living Hope Christian Fellowship church at 1620 Clark Avenue S.W., with a later meeting to follow across town at Crenshaw Middle School at 7:00 p.m.  Both are now canceled.

The two additional meetings scheduled for Thursday, January 15th, have not yet been canceled. The first, which will take place at the Edward “Peel” Coleman Community Center on Sherrick Road, begins at 5:00 p.m.  The second meeting on Thursday will take place at 7:00 p.m. at the North Branch of the Stark County District Library, which is located at 189 25th Street N.W. near Malone University.

Representatives from Redflex Traffic Systems, Inc., the City’s proposed vendor, will be on hand to answer technical questions and debunk popular myths about traffic enforcement systems.

Residents are encouraged to attend to air their opinions or simply learn more about the issue.  City Council approved a contract between the City and Redflex Traffic Systems earlier this month, though additional ordinances will be required before the proposed system may be installed.

Those with questions about the scheduled meetings are asked to call the City of Canton Office of Public Safety at (330) 438-4305 to learn more.
