CANTON, Ohio —

Canton officials announced on Friday that the City will host a community meeting on September 17, 2009 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Edward “Peel” Coleman Community Center on Sherrick Road to listen to ideas and feedback from the public about current and future programs at the facility.

Led by Corey Minor Smith, a member of Mayor Healy’s cabinet and the City’s director of compliance, the meeting will focus on updating existing policies, evaluating current programs, and discussing potential new activities at the Center.

“The Coleman Center already has great programs for young people, but we want to hear how the public thinks we can improve,” said Minor Smith.  “We hope this meeting will bring the community together to brainstorm new and exciting ways to build upon the Center’s support for our city’s youth.”

Healy recently asked Minor Smith to review and oversee the general operations at the Coleman Center to ensure that services offered by the city at the Center are effectively serving young people and their families in the community.

“We are always evaluating ourselves to see how the City can do things better,” Healy said.  “With feedback from our friends and neighbors, we can guarantee the Coleman Center continues to be a positive place for our youth to stay on the right path and grow into responsible adults.”

All City residents and community volunteers are invited to attend to share their thoughts and vision for the future of the facility.

The meeting will take place on September 17, 2009 from 5:30 PM–7:30 PM in the Community Room at the Edward “Peel” Coleman Community Center, located at 1400 Sherrick Road SE in Canton.  For more information about the meeting, residents should call Minor Smith at (330) 438-4137.
