The Training Bureau helps the Canton Police Department maintain the highest degree of professional policing for the Department. By administering ongoing training, screening new recruit applicants, and facilitating OPOTA-certified training sessions for officers, the Training Division ensures that Canton Police Officers are a cut above the rest.
Some of the functions of the Training Division include:
BAC Datamaster Testing (In Conjunction with Ohio Department of Health)
New Recruit Orientation
New Recruit Physical Agility Testing
Police Officers in Canton are required to undergo forty hours of in-service training each year. This training includes mandated state certification requirements in firearms duty (handgun and shotgun). Courses have included:
Glock and Straight-Baton Re-Certification
Hood Drill Training
OVI/ADAP/In-Car Video Training
Religious Diversity Awareness
Simulator Glock Training
Many officers also take training through various courses and seminars to improve their service to our community. These specialized courses include:
