3rd Street SW Waterline Replacement

  • Description: Replace 500 feet of 6" waterline, originally constructed in 1882.  Project limits are 3rd St. SW from Cleveland Avenue to Market Avenue.  Project was completed in May 2020 and the work was done by City of Canton water crews.

15th Street Waterline Repairs

  • Description: Waterline repairs completed on 15th St. SW in advance of the 15th St. Bridge Replacement Project.  Work was performed by City of Canton water crews and was completed in January of 2020.

33rd Street Area (Market Heights) Waterline Replacement

  • Description: Waterline replacement project to replace 9,000 feet of 6” and 12”waterline originally constructed in the 1920’s and 1930’s. The project was started in late 2019 and completed in May 2020. The project limits are 31St, 32nd, 33rd, 34th and 35th Street NW from Logan Ave.to Market Ave.

36th Street Multi Department Project

  • Description: Joint project with City Engineering department to replace 1,500 feet of 6” and 12” waterline, improve storm drainage and to reconstruct the street. The waterlines were original constructed in the 1930. The project is scheduled to begin August 2020 but may be delayed due to funding issues. The estimated total project cost is $1.6 million. Funding is being provided through the Ohio Public Works Commission. The project limits are 36th St Street NW from Logan Ave. to Market Ave.

39th Street Waterline Replacement

  •  Description: Project to replace 500 feet of 6” waterline originally constructed in 1946. The project limits are Harrison Ave. to the west dead‐end. This project is scheduled for June 2020.

44th Street Waterline Replacement

  • Description: Waterline replacement project to replace 9,000 feet of 6”, 8” and 12” waterline originally constructed in the 1960’s. The project started March 2020 and is scheduled to be completed September 2020. The project is funded through the Ohio Public Works Commission. The project limits are 44th St. from Cleveland Ave. to Market Ave.

Canton South Waterline Extension

  • Description: Phase 1 – Project to extend 20,000 feet of 6” and 8” waterlines into the neighborhoods west of Cleveland Ave. and north of Carnwise Street. The Project started in late 2019 and is expected to be completed July 2020. The  project is funded through the Ohio EPA’s Water Supply Revolving Loan Account. 

Colonial Blvd NE Waterline Replacement

  • Description: Project to replace 1,000 feet of 8” waterline originally constructed in 1927. The project limits are St. Elmo to Maple. This project is schedule for August 2020. Work is to be constructed by City of Canton water crews.

Fairmount Area  Waterline Replacement

  • Description: Phase 1 – Project to replace 9,000 feet of 6” & 8” waterlines originally constructed in the 1920’s. The project was started in late 2019 and completed in May 2020. The project limits include 29th, Fairmount, Baldwin, Coventry, Daleford and Fletcher streets in the southwest area of Canton.

Shorb Avenue NW  Waterline Replacement

  • Description: Project to replace 450 feet of 6” waterline originally constructed in 1927. The project limits are St. Elmo to Maple. Work is to be constructed by City of Canton water.

Woodland Street Waterline Extension

  • Description: Project to extend 3,000 feet of 12” water transmission main to provide for redundancy and reliability for the water distribution system. The project started in late 2019 and was completed in May 2020. The project limits are Woodland Street from Market Ave. to Crestmont St.

Woodlawn Avenue Waterline Extension

  • Description: Project to extend 2,700 feet of 6” and 12” water transmission main to provide for redundancy and reliability for the water distribution system. The project started in March 2020 and scheduled to be completed May 2020. The project limits are Woodlawn Ave. from 4th St. to 12th St.

Service Center Access Drive and Site Improvements 

  • Description: Project to reconstruct the access drive through the Water Department site to the Service center, improve drainage and other site improvements. The project is scheduled to start June 2020 and be completed September 2020.

Market Avenue Streetscape 

  • Description: City Water crews constructed improvements to the water system in advance of the City’s Streetscape project in the area of the McKinley Grand Hotel. These improvements were completed in April 2020.

Brentwood Water Tank Inspections

  • Description: The 1.5 million gallon Brentwood elevated water storage tank is scheduled to be inspected July 2020. Pending the results of the inspection, plans & specs will be developed to paint and provide any necessary renovations. 

Concrete Main Inspection Program

  • Description: This is the second year of a three year program to locate any possible leaks along the 30 miles of concrete water lines running from the Sugar Creek water treatment plant to the City. The program started in 2019 and will be completed in 2021 with 10 miles of waterline being tested in each of the three years. 

CMMS Program

  • Description: A computerized maintenance management system is being developed to assist various City departments to provide better operations and maintenance of the massive infrastructure we are tasked to maintain. The Water system alone has over 600 miles of water lines.

Cromer Water Reservoir Assessment

  • Description: An inspection and assessment of the 15 million gallon Cromer Water Reservoir will be conducted in 2020 – 2021. Plans and specs will be developed for any necessary improvements. Funding for the project is expected to be provided through the Ohio EPA’s Water Supply Revolving Loan Account. The improvements are schedule for 2022.

Sugar Creek Water Treatment Plant Assessment

  • Description: An inspection and assessment of the Sugar Creek Water Treatment Plant and the well fields was completed in 2019‐2020. Plans and specs will be developed in 2020 – 2021 for the necessary improvements with construction schedule for 2023 – 2024. Funding expected to be provided through the Ohio EPA’s Water Supply Revolving Loan Account.

Valve Maintenance Program

  • Description: This is the second year of a four year program to operate, test, assess and collect GPS information for all the main line water valves in the water distribution system. The program started in 2019 and will be completed in 2022 with 25% of the valves being completed each of the four years.

Water System Hydraulic Model

  • Description: The Water Department has started the development of a computerized hydraulic model of the water distribution system. Among other items, this will aide in the efficient planning of system improvements. The project started in March 2020 and is scheduled to be completed May 2021.
